Video Management Systems With Access Control And Time Recorder

Video Management Systems -

Video Introduction

Video management systems are designed to collect short video footage from cameras and other sources and record/store that video to a storage device. These systems provide an interface for users to view live video and access recorded video.

A video management system (VMS) can function as the software component of a network video recorder (NVR) or digital video recorder (DVR). However, compared to a packaged NVR device, a VMS tends to be more sophisticated and offers users more options and capabilities.

Advancements in technology have made it necessary to differentiate between a video management system (VMS) and the built-in features of modern network-based security cameras. Many modern network cameras now have internal capabilities to record and review video directly via a web browser, without requiring the use of a VMS. However, a camera's built-in web interface is typically exclusive to that particular camera and does not usually provide shared access capabilities across other network cameras
